2013 is over! I'm not quite sure whether I should be sad or happy about it, but a lot of big things have happened to me recently. I started high school, and I met a lot of new people. I've learned a lot about life, and I've grown a lot.
But enough of that boring stuff, here are some of my beauty/non-beauty favorites of 2013!
MAKEUP
Maybelline Falsies Volume Express Waterproof Mascara
I have continuously loved this mascara throughout this year, and I don't think I will ever get over it! It's the best mascara I have ever used!
Maybelline Baby Lips
I love Baby Lips because the colors are fantastic, and most importantly, it works.
This is my all-time favorite blush, and no matter what other blushes I buy, I always find myself coming back to this one. It's super natural, and not very bold.
This eyeshadow primer is the only one I've ever tried, but it's a total lifesaver. It's definitely my biggest must-have, being an athlete and student. It ensures that my eye makeup will not stray, and keeps it the same throughout my extremely long days.
I know I rave about Dolly Wink liquid liners, but I must say that I prefer pencil liners because they look a lot better in my opinion. However, they are not necessarily waterproof, and they take more effort to apply. My favorite shade is Rockstar, which is a sparkly plum-brown.
I just recently purchased this palette, but I haven't stopped using it since then! I love the colors, and it's my first palette ever. Rose gold is fantastic, and the shades in this palette are ridiculously gorgeous. There are endless beautiful combinations in this palette, and they're definitely worth the splurge.
MUSIC
Modern Vampires of the City - Vampire Weekend
This album is amazing, and when I first purchased it, I could not stop listening! Their songs are so catchy, and there is a wide variety on this album. My personal favorite was Hannah Hunt.
Midnight Memories - One Direction
I have been a One Direction fan since before What Makes You Beautiful came out in the United States, and I must say, this album was surprising! For a short time, I have a tiny little withdrawal from my One Direction craze, and this album just renewed it. I love their new sound! People say that they're so appealing because they mature with their fans, and I agree. Personal favorites are Half a Heart, Better Than Words, and Alive.
Clouds - Zach Sobiech
Zach has an amazing story, and he managed to create this beautiful song during harsh times in his life. I love this song a lot, and it's always stuck in my head. I think that it's extremely relatable - there will always be difficult times in your life, and what really strengthens you is being capable of finding a way out of them.
L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. - Noah and the Whale
This song is super catchy and the message is fantastic. I don't really listen to this type of music a lot, but I liked this song a lot!
5 Seconds of Summer
I love this band soo much. When I saw them this summer on their tour with One Direction, I sobbed like a baby. It's kind of embarrassing, but it's true! I've loved them since before I saw them in concert, and their music is really relatable. I feel like I can relate to every single one of their songs. Don't forget that they're cute and Australian too! :D Personal favorites are Try Hard, Voodoo Doll, Eighteen, and Out of My Limit.
All Time Low
This band is also another one of my favorites. I always say that Nothing Personal is the best album ever created, and it's true! I love their music, their sound, and their lyrics. Everything about this band is flawless! Personal favorites are Stella, Lost in Stereo, Backseat Serenade, and If These Sheets Were the States.
Movies
Anchorman 2
I've seen this movie two times in theaters, and it was the best sequel I have ever seen. I love Brick, and he did a lot this film, which makes it better than the first in my book. It's definitely one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
Great Gatsby
I loved this movie, because it was really true to the book. Leonardo was fantastic, and spot-on as usual. His portrayal of Gatsby was all I could've ever wanted. The soundtrack was perfect as well.
Now You See Me
This was a great action film, and unique. I loved the plot twists! Also, Dave Franco and Jesse Eisenberg are in this. So who wouldn't want to watch it?
This is Us : One Direction
I loved this film sooooo much. Words cannot explain how this made me feel. I felt super successful, because this movie showed not only how normal they are, but how much they've grown! I've been here since their X-Factor days, and I must say, I never would have expected them to become this huge. I still remember wishing that people would know who One Direction was. I used to say "I love One Direction!" and people would respond, "Who?". This movie was amazing, and I will watch it repeatedly once I get the DVD lool.
Television
The Office
I love this show because it's hilarious and totally random. It makes me really sad that it ended, but I'm working on finishing the show, although I kind of don't want to. It always picks me up when I'm feeling down, and I love how balanced the cast is.
New Girl
I love Zooey Deschanel, and this show is just super quirky and hilarious. I love her style on this show, and I look up to her character Jess. Schmidt is amazing as well, and the characters are fantastic. Also, Dylan O'Brien guest stars, which is not a terrible thing haha.
American Horror Story
I am not a big fan of horror. This show may seem like it's plotless, but it's actually has really deep storylines. It's super creepy and definitely terrifying, but the casting is great, and it explores themes that are present in everyday life. I think that Asylum is by far the best season, but I personally love Taissa Farmiga so I'm looking forward to watching Coven ^~^ Also, EVAN PETERS.
Teen Wolf
I am a die-hard Teen Wolf fan. I love the cast, because the guys are gorgeous. Holland Roden is also beautiful, but most of the girl characters are pretty annoying (cough cough Allison Argent). The plot is great, and it's suspenseful and action packed, yet still manages to add humor. My personal favorite episode was Motel California, which was the only TV episode that has ever made me cry like a baby. Favorite characters are Lydia, Isaac, and Stiles. I'm totally against Allison and Isaac together :( not happenin'. But season 3b is starting on January 6th! I'm super pumped!
Sherlock
British TV is amazing, and Sherlock is the best! I've seen so many Sherlock Holmes renditions in my lifetime, and I must say that the Benedict Cumberbatch-Martin Freeman pairing is the best Sherlock-Watson I've ever seen. This show is super quirky and slightly mind-boggling. The best is when Moriarty comes out, so bear with Sherlock dominating every case.
Skins
I love this show! It's extremely real and relatable, and that's what I love about it. It doesn't dull down the harsh cruelties of the world, and it really expresses every possible situation a teenager can experience. The casting is fabulous! I love the first and second generation, but third generation was a flop. Person favorite characters are Cassie, Pandora, Effie, and Maxxie. My favorite couples were Effie and Freddie, Cassie and Sid, and Tony and Michelle. I loved it when they explored suicide, life-changing accidents, and eating disorders, because these are tender topics, yet they handled it so gracefully and truly expressed the difficulties of these. The final season was a bit of a disappointment. I was not a big fan of the Cassie episode, and I didn't watch the Cook episode. However, I loved the Effie episode!

THOUGHTS ON MY YEAR
✿ Promotion:
I was promoted from middle school this year, which seems like forever ago. For a short period afterwards, I remember crying every day because I thought high school sucked, and I missed my old friend. Honestly, middle school was really awkward and pretty bad. I miss old friends and teachers, and it makes me sad that we'll eventually lose touch with each other. I still maintain my strongest friendships, and it's easier to stay in touch nowadays because of social networking. Because I went to a private school, everyone branched out into their respective high schools, which was hard. However, middle school was a great experience. Also, winning league for the first time in volleyball at our school, and being named MVP was great. And not to mention the Valedictorian honor, and the speech I gave! heck yeahhh!
✿ Vidcon:
I loved Vidcon a lot! It feels great to be surrounded by people with the same passions as you. It was two days of freedom, and I'm definitely looking forward to going again next year!
✿ High School:
During my first week of high school, I came home and cried every day. I got sunburnt the day before the first day, and I spent that day in pain rubbing frozen aloe vera gel on my face. On the first day, I made zero friends and didn't get a locker, and carried all my textbooks around like a stupid person. I also lost my schedule and locked my binder in my teacher's classroom. I also failed my first two Honors Pre-Calculus tests and got a D in the class, which led to the teacher suggesting I drop from his class. I did end up dropping. Yay for bad luck!
However, it got better, because I had my one best friend and volleyball team to get me through it. I made a lot of friends through my friends. There were a lot of cute boys as well, I must admit. I love my school to death now, and although my classes can be extremely stressful and difficult, I manage because I love my peers and teachers. I'm so grateful for the new people I have met, because some of them are some of the best people I have ever met. I remember crying because I didn't want to go to the high school I go to now, and now I am glad I go here.
✿ Volleyball:
We won league in my middle school, and I was MVP, which was a great way to end my middle school years. I also ended my 14's club season, and I was team captain, and we went to Florida at the end the year. That was really fun, and although we had drama on the team, I think it was my favorite team that I've ever had.
More recently, I was on my high school's JV team, and then moved up to Varsity for CIF. That was extremely exciting! I also got a patch for my letterman jacket next year. (: It was kind of hard being an athlete and student, but I managed and things worked out pretty well. Now it's club season again, and I'm on a 15-1's team, and my practices are intense and long. They go from 6:45 to 9:30 on school days, and I find it harder and harder to manage my schoolwork with that as well, but it's going great so far. We'll see how things go in the new year.
✿ Overall, I'm extremely thankful for what I have, and I'm glad everything played out the way it did. I try my best to be positive all the time! Whenever I run into tough times, I think that I couldn't possibly have it the worst; someone always has or has had it worse than you. If they can go through it, you can too!
2013 was a great year, and the birth of my blog! I thank you for reading and supporting this blog! Have a Happy New Year, and I hope you had a good 2013, and have a better 2014!
love,
zozo~
